How to get WindowsXP to see a shared linux folder?

Recently installed Debian and completely new to Linux. Samba package installed, and select the shared folder. On my Windows machine, I see the Linux box, but not a folder or drive over it. Shared folder on Linux with SMB (also tried NFS). The machine has Windows TCP / IP, IPX / SPX and NetBIOS protocols. When the Add Network window I can see the image, but not the folder / drive. When I click the right to add, I get a login box, but I write in the works. He tried to root and the user who created the installation. Need help with this, but can anyone recommend a Linux newbie guide? All the places I read is not easy for beginners.

  1. G Says:

To share a folder between Windows and Linux, must be formatted as FAT.

  2. Colinc Says:

Samba configuration must be wrong. If it is properly set up a folder with SMB service is running to be seen. You need a Linux and Samba session for each user to connect to it. Also remove the IPX / SPX, if you use a NetWare machine. You do not need anything else, and the Additional Protocol can slow down the network. NFS has no effect on Windows shares.
